KEY INGREDIENTS:

Caffeine: An antioxidant known to help reduce the appearance of under eye bags and dark circles.
Glycerin: Derived from vegetable sources, it’s an excellent humectant. It helps hydrate skin by absorbing water from the surrounding environment.
Dimethicone: A silicone-based polymer used as a skin protectant to help reduce water loss.
Niacinamide: A form of vitamin B3, niacinamide is a water soluble vitamin. It is widely used in dermatology for its soothing properties, helping restore skin’s moisture barrier, and visibly fading skin discolorations.
Silica: A type of powder with a spherical bead shape that provides a silky feel and soft focus effect. It is lightweight and is able to absorb a significant amount of oil from skin.
Iron Oxides: Mineral pigments that provide a visible tint. Research has suggested iron oxides may also help provide protection against visible light (including blue light).
Phe-Resorcinol: Phenylethyl resorcinol is a synthetic molecule that is used in the Pigmentclar range to help address visible skin discolorations.
Titanium Dioxide: Also known as a physical or inorganic sunscreen filter and is often recommended for sensitive skin types. It forms a barrier on the skin’s surface to help protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water: A soothing water sourced in the town of La Roche-Posay in France and a core ingredient in most of our products. It contains a unique combination of minerals, trace elements, and a high concentration of selenium, a natural antioxidant.

La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Eyes Dark Circle Corrector – After Photos

The first photo is immediately post-application, the second one is with complete make-up – so a light concealer, BB cream, highlighter and blush. Not bad, n’est pas?

The only thing it lacks, as ever, is SPF. While my under-eye concealer can compensate in that area, it’s a mystery to me why eye creams persist in excluding SPF when they’re one of the key aging areas of the face. Even a low one would be worthwhile – wake up L’Oreal!

Pigmentclar Eyes Dark Circle Skin-Evening Corrector

Despite claims that make this sound like the must-have product for dark circles under the eyes, this treatment doesn’t contain anything unique to the eye area. The amount of niaicinamide present may improve skin’s thickness so dark circles are a bit less noticeable, but the caffeine and “PhE-Resorcinol” ingredients have no special research proving they can treat undereye pigment issues. They may be of some help, but not to the extent that dark circles go away—and most likely not from the tiny amounts of each this product contains!

Pigmentclar Eyes Dark Circle Skin Evening Corrector contains mineral pigments for a bit of subtle camouflage and reflective shine—a tactic that can improve the look of dark circles, but a good concealer goes a lot further, so you’ll still need one of those!

In the end, this lightweight eye-area treatment is an OK option that really isn’t needed if your regular facial moisturizer or serum contain a better assortment of anti-aging ingredients, which they should! The fragrance-free formula contains a decent assortment of ingredients, but most aren’t likely to be of much help, especially if other signs of aging are present around the eyes. Not everyone needs an eye cream (or treatment), and this product proves it, as there are a number of other skincare products not specifically labeled “eye” that could replace it and likely produce better results.

  • Lightweight texture.
  • Fragrance-free.
  • The amount of niacinamide will impart anti-aging benefits.
  • Doesn't contain anything special for dark circles.
  • The called-out ingredients are present in amounts likely too low to be effective.
  • Lacks a robust mix of anti-aging ingredients many other products, including those not labeled for the eye area, offer.

Innovation PIGMENTCLAR EYES with concentrated [PhE-Resorcinol + Caffeine] visibly reduces the look of blue circles due to poor circulation and brown dark circles caused by melanin overproduction. Its gentle melting texture, enriched with light-reflecting pigments, associated with a metal cooling applicator, brightens the eye area and freshens up the appearance.

La Roche-Posay At-A-Glance

L’Oreal-owned La Roche-Posay has a pharmaceutical lineage based in France, and the company speaks of their thermal spring water as the cornerstone of their commitment to dermatological skin care. In fact, the name La Roche-Posay comes from the French town that is the source of this water, which is said to be a rich in selenium. While selenium is an element that has potent antioxidant ability, it’s unclear how much the water La Roche-Posay uses contains, since all water has to go through purification processes to be to used in cosmetic products.

That aside, this brand does have a number of standout products, including some good sunscreens and anti-aging treatments. Another positive: All of its skincare is packaged in containers that will keep beneficial products protected from light and air (no jar packaging here!). Unfortunately there are some missteps, namely that some otherwise-excellent products include potentially-irritating amounts of alcohol, fragrance, or other irritants. The line could also benefit from additional products that contain more state-of-the-art ingredients. Still, for a no-frills approach to serious skin care, there are some finds to be had!
