Through my own trial and error, I found the more intense retinol creams and serums often left my skin red and dry, while the milder versions didn’t provide visible progress. Naturally, all this means I’ve spent years wishing there were effective, accessible retinol products that were gentle enough to use every day and powerful enough to provide results.

How No7’s New Night Cream and Eye Cream Converted Me Into a Retinol User

For most of my adult life, I’ve loved skin care. Professionally, I spent years trying out products on a weekly basis, and personally, I learned to find moments of peace in my nightly and morning skin-care routines. Still, there’s one skin-care product that’s always left me intimidated, no matter how hard I tried to find a version of it that worked for my complexion: retinol.

At first glance, there’s nothing too complicated about retinol. Technically speaking, retinol is one of several types of retinoids, which are vitamin A derivatives. Practically speaking, retinol works to increase cell turnover and collagen production, smoothing, brightening, and plumping skin — and it really works. In fact, unlike many less-studied ingredients, retinol is one of the most efficacious and proven skin-care ingredients on the market. That’s why, if you’re at all interested in skin care (and maybe even if you’re not!), you’ve probably heard of it. Maybe you’ve even seen a meme about how to know when it’s time for retinol.

At 28, I’ve known retinol is incredibly effective (and probably something I should be using every day) for many years now, but I’ve still hesitated to add it to my regular, everyday routine. Because there’s one other well-known quality of some retinol products: It can be harsh.

And then I learned about No7’s retinol collection.

No7’s products are known for their accessibility and premium quality, so perhaps it’s no surprise that the brand’s retinol offerings are both attainable and effective — just what I had been looking for. Still, I have to admit that I hesitated before using the brand’s Advanced Retinol 1.5% Complex Night Concentrate. But here’s where No7 retinol products are different: The retinol is powered by slow-release oil encapsulation technology to control the delivery of such a concentrated ingredient to the skin. In other words, you get more retinol with less chance of irritation. Even better, No7 uses pure retinol, which is proven to be more effective than commonly used retinol derivatives.

With the wildly popular results of the brand’s Night Concentrate (83% of women surveyed saw a reduced appearance of wrinkles, according to the brand), No7 is now expanding its line of retinol products with Pure Retinol Night Cream and Pure Retinol Eye Cream. If the idea of putting retinol around your eyes gives you pause, you wouldn’t be alone. A common misconception about the ingredient is that it’s not meant to be used around the eye, but as New York City-based dermatologist Dendy Engelman tells Allure, using a retinol (and specifically, a retinol eye cream) in the area above and under your eyes can actually be one of the best things you can do for your skin as you age. “The skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, and is one of the first to show signs of aging,” Engelman says. “Applying retinol (carefully) to this area will help prevent fine lines, wrinkles, and sunkenness from setting in.”

Oftentimes, when trying to find a retinol that works for me, I’d struggle to know what retinol product was best. Was it an eye cream? A powerful serum? A night cream I knew I’d use consistently? No7’s retinol regimen offers all three options, all created with a gentler, less irritating retinol that’s been informed by 15 years of research. Personally, I found the easiest way to incorporate the products into my routine was to use a few drops of the Night Concentrate each evening before bed, making sure to put the product on the areas of skin I wanted to brighten and smooth the most. To be extra cautious, I started applying it a few times a week and progressed to using it every night. The lightweight, non-sticky feeling of the serum made it easy to layer with the Night Cream. When combined, the effects of the retinol are amplified, producing powerful results. But for nights when I want to keep my routine simple, the Night Cream offers all the brightening, smoothing benefits of retinol paired with the intense, long-lasting hydration of a luxury moisturizer.

SHEEN Review: No7

Ever since the launch of No7 back in 1935, the brand has been providing us with the most innovative skincare and makeup products backed by science. For decades, they have offered the best of the best in all terms of beauty at an affordable price. I personally love No7 because it allows me to feel luxurious at a great price. They not only help women around the world feel confident and comfortable in their own skin but they also support organizations that help women, which is a win in my book. I recently got my hands on products from the brand’s Radiance+ collection and I’m here to give you my honest thoughts. Today’s SHEEN Review is dedicated to No7.

There’s nothing I love more than a toner. Why? Because it removes all the gunk and dirt left on the face after cleansing. This toner not only evens out the skin tone but it also brightens the complexion of the face. Your skin needs vitamin C if you’re aiming for a youthful glow and this product will do all that for you. It has tightened the look of pores on my skin and keep it refreshed and radiant.

I’ve never been into eye creams. To be quite honest with you, I always assumed eye creams were something used by older people. It has vitamin C and caffeine formulated in it which will brighten up the eye area. The tri-ball applicator is super cooling and helps reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. I love this product because it always makes me appear more awake and refreshed than I actually am.

A love a good vitamin C serum! For someone with oily skin that is pretty surprising in my eyes. This product is great for all skin types. It was made to brighten the skin while giving it that beautiful, youthful, dewy look. It is super lightweight on the skin and has a gel consistency. Nothing is worse than tired, dull skin, and this product instantly gives the skin that luminous look.

I’ve been loving this cleanser from the brand. It is gentle, yet exfoliating on the skin. I have been using it for quite some time and noticed brighter skin just after a couple of uses. This cleanser was formulated with natural apricot seed and fruit extracts and does a great job at buff away dead skin cells. My skin feel so refreshed and energized after using it and I can feel how firm and smooth it makes my face. The vitamin C included helps improve the complexion of the skin and keeps it fresh and clear.

For Best Results: Use morning and evening, dotting around the eyes and gently blending around their contours.

Boots’ No7 range is known for causing a beauty stampede.

Last April, the Dark Spot Correcting and Firm serums had a waitlist of over 36,000 shoppers on on the day of it’s launch. And by the looks of the latest innovation – the Dark Circle Corrector will not only follow but quite possibly surpass it’s predecessors.

If, like me, you’re prone to chronic dark circles under your eyes that no amount of concealer or eye cream can completely disguise, then we’re sure you’ll be as keen as I was to try the latest skincare product to join the No7 family.

After seven years of research to identify the main causes of dark circles that can be treated using cosmetics (inflammation, hyperpigmentation and thin/fragile skin), No7 has now developed a product that is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of those dreaded dark circles by 30%.

A common misconception when it comes to treating dark circles is that they can only be defeated by an expensive eye cream. However, most eye creams tend to be too heavy for the area which therefore clogs the under eye, causing it to puff and leaving you with not only dark circles but under eye bags too. The Dark Circle Corrector is a serum meaning it’s far lighter on the skin thus allowing it to breathe.

Primarily designed to correct dark circles, the serum also works as a concealer. Coming in two shades (Light/Medium and Medium/Dark), it combines a cocktail of hardworking skincare ingredients, such as; plumping Hyaluronic Acid and pigmentation-fighting Vitamin C with colour-correcting pigments and light-diffusing particles for more instant results. Although daunting when first swatched, the tinted serum acts more of a blur than a cosmetic product meaning it smoothly blends into the skin without the need of additional makeup.

The application head is similar to the multi-roller-ball massage head of the brand’s Firming Booster Serum. However, this time – the five cooling metal spheres de-puff and drain the under eye area to reduce the appearance of dark circles.

And you don’t to take my word for it – in a consumer study for the serum, No7 found that 80 per cent of the 210 women who trialed the product saw a visible reduction in the appearance of their dark circles in just one week. The Dark Circle Corrector is the first “clinically proven” treatment for dark circles, reducing their appearance by up to 30 per cent.

The Dark Circle Correcting Eye Serum will be available to buy from all Boots stores and online this morning (June 5), but you’ll have to be quick. We all know what happened last time.
