Star forces Avon to pull cellulite ads for 'shaming' women
Right now, Jameela Jamil is a queen! Armed with her trusty Twitter handle and Instagram account, the star of The Good Place is once again using her profile to highlight the injustices women face daily from brands and influencers intent on encouraging poor body image.
The latest brand to be pulled into line by the body-positive activist is Avon.
Their latest campaign promoting Smooth Moves Naked Proof, a cellulite cream, featured a happy young woman in underwear with the words "dimples are cute on your face (not on your thighs)" in bold type across her body.
Jamil shared the campaign image with her followers, on both Twitter and Instagram, with a caption that directly called out the beauty brand for shaming women into thinking cellulite is bad.
"And yet EVERYONE has dimples on their thighs, I do, you do, and the CLOWNS at @Avon_UK certainly do. Stop shaming women about age, gravity and cellulite. They’re inevitable, completely normal things. To make us fear them and try to “fix” them, is to literally set us up for failure."
The British actress, who founded the I Weigh campaign "to change the conversation around how women define their self-worth," continued:
"Every body is beautiful, unless they have any 'flaws' I guess. What a gross abuse of the body positive movement. I want you all to look out for this constant manipulation. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. It's everywhere. You are constantly being manipulated to self hate."
The ad's messaging has since been removed with Avon directly responding to Jamil's outcry admitting that they "missed the mark" with their messaging.
They then took their apology further by addressing their followers to let them know they are working on rectifying the messaging.
This isn't the first time Jamil has stepped in, on behalf of all women, to stand up for body positivity.
The English-born actress took to social media to express her concern for Khloé Kardashian after she posted a weight-loss quote to Instagram.
Kardashian's quote read, "2 Things a Girl Wants: 1) Lose Weight 2) Eat."
