Review: Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum
As you may remember, I love the Klairs Supple Preparation Toner . I’ve gone through 2 bottles so far, with a third in my stash, and as a result, I was incredibly curious about the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum. My skin leans towards sensitive and dry, so I’m always on the lookout for soothing, hydrating products.
My friends and I did an Asian beauty product exchange for Christmas, and one of them was kind enough to get it for me, (it was on my wish list). Given the absurd number of products I have, I wasn’t able to open it until a couple of weeks ago. I’ve used it long enough, now, that I feel comfortable giving a review.

I live in a tropical island country, so heated flushed skin is often my problem besides my oily skin. But right now we’re experiencing colder weather, because of that I’ve been getting dry flaky skin too around my cheeks. But that’s not all! I also got my skin irritated because of the cold wax I recently had. It’s a long story, but essentially, the salon where my mom gets her eyelash extensions does not do threading, only a cold wax and it was too late for me to back out so I let them wax my facial hair. And so, I ended up looking for products that will soothe my skin plus hydrate and moisturized as well. That is why it’s so timely that Wishtrend sent me a full sized bottle of Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum that does exactly all that! But is it effective?
WHAT IS IT?
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum claims to be a magical skincare serum that makes your skin softer and replenished with moisture. Keep your skin radiant and glowing throughout the day. It is made for soothing sensitive skin. To lower the surface temperature as it deeply hydrates for the calming & cooling your skin needs.
This is also one of the best-selling Klairs product and since their launch in 2009, they reformulate it, making it even better by taking into consideration what our consumers truly wanted. You can check its ingredients analysis in CosDNA.
PERFORMANCE
APPLICATION: After cleansing and toning, I apply 2-3 pumps of Rich Moist Soothing Serum all over my face by chok-chok (tapping gently) all over my face until it is fully absorbed which only takes a few seconds.
SCENT: This one has a very familiar floral scent with a hint of lemon. I can’t point out where I’ve smelled it before but it’s a really lovely and soothing scent. (UPDATE 2/16/2018: It smells familiar because it has the same smell as the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask!)
PACKAGING: It is packaged in a sturdy plastic pump bottle, nothing elegant about it but it does not feel cheap. I actually like the mini cap it has. It is also packaged in a box that resembles a kraft paper.
FORMULA: It has a semi-thick consistency like a watery gel that is lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. It also feels cool on the skin, but not that cool like Vicks Vaporub, it’s more like a refreshing cool. Like a sudden cold air in summer. Lastly, this is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. No animal testing & no animal by-products used.
RESULTS: I never really expect any products to work instantly upon applying, but while I’m gently tapping Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum into my skin, I was surprised that my skin instantly looks smoother and glowing. It also turned my skin plump and bouncy. Honestly, if I don’t have a few bumps on my skin, I think I have already achieved the so-called glass skin.
After the cold wax on my upper and lower lips, my skin turned red and kinda painful. I also felt that bumps will soon appear so I applied some Rich Moist Soothing Serum and the redness was prevented. But the best thing I love about this serum is it feels so cool and soothing. It really does hydrate and moisturized without the sticky, heavy and some “warm” feeling.

VERDICT
PROS: It hydrates and moisturized your skin thus it gives you an instant glow and smoother look. It also cools down skin; soothe and calm sensitive and irritated skin. It’s a lightweight, non-oily, non-sticky and absorbs easily into the skin so it’s a good moisturizing product for those with oily and combination skin. But still moisturizing enough for those with dry skin. It’s also a nice base for your makeup.
CONS: Either I don’t really see any cons or I’ve been using this for only a few days that’s why I don’t see it. But so far, this is so close to becoming one of my Holy Grail products.

Feels very hydrating and it absorbed very well. Left my skin plump throughout the day. It has this cooling effect which I wasn’t expecting but I really appreciated, since I have redness on my cheeks.
Application
You’re supposed to apply serum after your toner or light essences/ampoules. For me, I didn’t feel the need to apply a separate hydrating toner when using this, because they practically do the same thing – hydrate. If you use an essence or ampoule to target a particular skin concern, you can use them before the serum. This replaced my Supple Preparation toner during winter time. You can definitely build it up if one layer is not enough. Two layers were the perfect amount for me. And 1-2 pumps can cover the whole face.
The Rich Moist Soothing Serum is made for soothing sensitive skin. It lowers the surface temperature as it deeply hydrates for the calming & cooling your skin needs.
My Experience
Skin Type- Normal Sensitive
As my skin is on the sensitive side, there aren’t many serums and creams in the market that i can go for. Before buying the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum bottle, i definitely had to check whether it suits my skin. And hence i ordered the trial pack first and used it for about two weeks before buying the full size bottle.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum is gel type and fast absorbing. It can be used either in the morning or the night routine. The soothing serum has a cooling effect on the skin. It makes your skin soft and smooth. I used it along with the unscented Klairs Toner
I kept the serum in the refrigerator so it was extra cooling and soothing for my sensitive skin.
This serum is good for sunburned, heated and sensitive skin. In other words, The serum certainly works to soothe redness and inflammation. However, I do not have acne so i cannot say whether it works to calm redness in acne prone skin.
Finally, This serum by itself provides sufficient hydration for my skin. My skin does not feel dry or stretchy if i just follow up with a sunscreen.
Unfortunately after using it for more than two months, i do not see any difference in skin tone or texture. 🙁 There isn’t any miraculous effects on my skin. I still like it because it soothes my skin and helps to retain that healthy glow.

By now, I’ve tried almost every Klairs product in existence. These tend to work really well for my combination skin, and I find the packaging and the overall user experience pleasant too. Somehow, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum has escaped by grasp – until now!
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum promises to soothe the skin (makes sense, based on the name), restore healthy moisture levels, and support skin barrier function. It’s made with a plethora of plant extracts plus hyaluronic acid – a full list of ingredients is at the end of the article. This product is cruelty free and vegan.
How to use:
Cleanse the face and use toner
Gently spread 3-4 pumps worth of the serum over the face and neck

This product has a light, gel-like texture and a scent that’s hard to describe. It actually caught me off guard – I expected this to be completely unscented, maybe because it looks clear and is named “soothing”. Yet there’s a noticeable medicinal aroma that’s not a deal breaker but also not my favorite. If I had to guess, it’s the result of all of the plant extracts in the ingredients.
My impressions
I have combination skin that’s not particularly sensitive, and I enjoy this serum. It’s not a holy grail for me like some other Klairs products, but it’s pretty good. I like how quickly my skin drinks it up and it’s been a regular part of my evening routine.
I notice visible plumping of fine lines (especially on my forehead) and an overall improved appearance. Everything looks more nourished and hydrated. One of my favorite ways to use it is by pairing with Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream – it’s a match made in heaven.
I think this could be a total must have for me if not for the scent. I am not against fragrance in skincare (this technically doesn’t have “fragrance”, but has fragrant essential oils), but I still want to like the actual smell. Since this serum is advertised as soothing, it would make more sense to make it truly fragrance free – without lemon peel, lavender, and orange peel oils which can be irritating to people with sensitive skin.
I will keep using the serum since it’s working well for my skin. And I encourage my sensitive friends to patch test this (and other products) before applying them to the entire face.
