PRODUCT REVIEW: CLINIQUE FRESH PRESSED DAILY BOOSTER WITH PURE VITAMIN C 10% – BEST BRIGHTENING SERUM FOR FACE

Instead than meddling with L-Ascorbic Acid, Clinique focused on creating packaging that’d keep it away from all its enemies, giving it the best chance of survival. Did it work?

How Does Vitamin C Help Skin?

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that comes in many forms. The pure – and most powerful – is L-Ascorbic Acid. Research shows it:

  • Fights the free radicals that give you wrinkles
  • Boosts the production of collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm helping to keep skin hydrated
  • Brightens skinand fades away hyperpigmentation

The catch? There are two:

  • Irritation: In high doses (10% and higher), it irritates sensitive skin
  • Instability: It’s highly unstable and spoils quickly when exposed to light, air and heat

Instead than meddling with L-Ascorbic Acid, Clinique focused on creating packaging that’d keep it away from all its enemies, giving it the best chance of survival. Did it work?

OK so the difference isn’t huge, but I have definitely noticed a change. For one, my complexion does seem brighter, and a bit lighter overall. Second, and most notable, my skin has become SUPER glowy. It’s difficult to capture in pictures, but my skin seems to catch the light in a way that it didn’t do before starting the Fresh Pressed challenge.

Fresh pressed daily booster reviews

Today, I’ll be talking about Clinique’s Fresh Pressed regime, which is basically a 7 day plan that uses vitamin C to clarify your skintone and increase your natural glow. I tried a vitamin C based skincare routine last year when I tested Auriga’s Flavo C range, but I wasn’t entirely convinced by the result. However, when I received this adorable mason jar filled with Clinique goodies, I was inspired to give the idea another go. Especially when reading the claims!

– cell renewal is boosted from the first use
– your complexion should look brighter after only one use, and after a week of daily application, your skin will be more even, smoother and firmer
– after four weeks, hyperpigmentation should be reduced by about 20% (no idea how they measure this though), and fine lines and wrinkles have reduced by 30%
– after 12 weeks of contnued use, hyperpigmentation has reduced by 30%, and wrinkles by 40%.

Sounds pretty impressive! I only used the product for 7 days, so let’s see if we can see those claimed end results.

No makeup no filter, lots of derpface.

The 7 day Fresh Pressed regime encompasses two products. First, the daily booster with pure vitamin C. You shake the bottle well for about 15 seconds before use, and then you add two drops of this product to your moisturizer, applied in the morning and at night before bed. 7 days after starting a bottle of this product, the vitamin C becomes unstable and you’re supposed to throw it out. Vitamin C is notoriously difficult to stabilize in skincare, that’s not an issue typical to Clinique.

Second, there’s these little bags of Fresh Pressed renewing powder cleanser. You use this before your moisturizer, after removing your makeup (or in the morning): first you tear open the parcel and pour the powder into your hand, and then you add a tiny bit of water. Rub your hands together to allow the powder to lather up, and apply the mixture to your face. Let the foam sit for about a minute, and rinse thoroughly. You’ll immediately feel like your skin is a bit “tighter”, and it will look super glowy.

So much derface.

OK, but what does 7 days of following the Fresh Pressed regime look like? Let’s take a look.

This close-up shot shows the glow a bit better, focus on my cheekbone and the bridge of my nose and see how those areas reflect more light now? I absolutely noticed the difference, and what’s better, it’s been almost a month since I finished the 7 day regime and my skin is still super glowy. I’ve also been using Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream, which is also supposed to boost radiance, so that might have contributed to the result as well. Either way, my skin feels hydrated and looks radiant, so the Fresh Pressed line gets thumbs up for me based on this little 7 day trial.

The 7 day Fresh Pressed regime costs about €27, not cheap but for vitamin C based skincare, it’s pretty much par for the course. Worth a try if your skin needs a boost of radiance.

The serum is a lightweight liquid with a citrus scent like oranges-as expected. I felt no stinging or irritation from use. Of note: For full potency, use within 7 days then discard. Note: once activated, Booster retains full power for 7 days but may darken due to normal Vitamin C oxidation. This doesn’t appear on a lot of sites selling it and I noticed it on the package. The Fresh Pressed Booster contains ascorbic acid which is the least stable version of Vitamin C. It works extremely well, but it oxidizes quickly. I’m going to paste a snippet from Deciem.com that explains this very well:

Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster: Review

I’m always looking out for a great new antioxidant or Vitamin C serum. Clinique’s new Fresh Pressed Daily Booster With Pure Vitamin C 10% seemed interesting. Details per Clinique:

What It Is
Unique de-aging Booster harnesses the full power of pure, fresh Vitamin C at our highest concentration to brighten, even and retexturize skin.

What It Is Formulated To Do
Just like your morning fresh-pressed juice or vitamin helps you stay healthy on the inside, this super-potent Booster was designed as a daily supplement to visibly rejuvenate skin from the outside—and a simple, seamless way to reinvigorate your de-aging routine without changing a thing. Simply mix 2 drops with your moisturizer AM & PM.

What Else You Need to Know
Fresh means powerful. Pure Vitamin C naturally degrades when exposed to oxygen, so it’s most powerful when fresh. Stay-fresh packaging isolates the pure Vitamin C until activation, maintaining its freshness and full power for maximum results.

The packaging is unique. There’s a rubber bulb you depress to release the Vitamin C powder into the solution to activate. Shake well for 15 seconds and again before every use. You also use the bulb to press and release the serum into your hand. You use two drops AM and PM. Add it to your normal serum or moisturizer to boost it with antioxidant Vitamin C. The tube is a 0.3 oz size for $19.50 or you can get 4 tubes for $76.50.

The best property of any powerful antioxidant is also its worst property—it oxidizes. Basically, antioxidants bind to free “radicals” of oxygen so that your cell’s don’t. The problem is that they may bind to oxygen in the bottle before you even buy any product claiming to contain antioxidants. And since Vitamin C has a very strong ability to bind to free radicals of oxygen, as soon as it’s dissolved in water, it starts to oxidize and change the colour of the solution (from clear to slight orange and later to dark orange). When this change happens, two things occur: 1) the activity of Vitamin C becomes disabled and 2) far worse, the “antioxidant” formulation actually turns into a “pro-oxidant” formulation. Many clinical skincare brands have filed patents that claims to stabilize Vitamin C in water and many have fought amongst themselves on whether or not they have breached each other’s patents. These patents and fights are simply meaningless because these respective formulations continue to show oxidation and change colour, while consumers believe that since there is a patent, this colour change might be OK. A patent grant does not verify that the function described actually works—a patent is not a validation of a discovery; it is simply an exclusivity to a position claim. Very simply, if a Vitamin C formula turns colour, the Vitamin C is oxidized and the formula becomes potentially damaging to the skin.

So does this work? Yes. I noticed a visible reduction in discolorations and a more even tone in my skin after one week. It was easy and even fun and different to use. My only gripe with this is the 7 day lasting of the product once activated. I used 2 drops on my face and 2 drops on my neck AM and PM everyday to see how long it would last. I was hoping it would die and run out at 7 days. It kept going and lasted about two weeks. While that’s nice it lasted, I felt if the product is no longer as potent and even recommended to use for only 7 days once activated, it should run out at 7 days. So a smaller package at a cheaper price needs to be done to make this something I would use on a regular basis. Buying a $19.50/week Vitamin C serum is pricey. Now, if you only plan on doing this once maybe after summertime damage and a few times a year, might be worth it for you. I don’t think it’s priced for a daily use product. It did work well and is worth trying if you want a fast way to brighten your skin.

Packaging:
Clinique fresh pressed 7-day system with pure vitamin C comprises of two products in it; powder cleanser and daily booster. The powder cleanser is packed in a small tearable sachets meant for single usage. This means one sachet has to be used at a single time and it contains enough powder for single use. Next, the daily booster comes in a tiny plastic vial which is sealed in thin foil. There are no details written over this product as they are tiny in size, in my opinion. The powder cleanser and serum vial comes in Clinique’s signature green coloured cardboard box. The box houses all the details about the products. Overall, the packaging is really efficient, compact, easy to use and travel-friendly.

My Experience with Clinique Fresh Pressed 7-Day System with Pure Vitamin C:

Powder Cleanser with Pure Vitamin C:
The first step in the 7-day system is powder cleanser with pure vitamin C. There are 7 single usage tearable sachets of this powder cleanser.

To use it, I pour powder cleanser onto my wet hands and add some water. After adding water, I work into forming lather. It lathers up pretty well. I massage it gently over the skin and leave it for a minute to let it do the work. In the meanwhile, it makes the skin feel tight. After a minute, I rinse it off with normal water. I used this powder cleanser only in the morning for all the 7-days. The powder cleanser has a weird fragrance which is not off-putting and can be worked with.

The powder cleanser cleanses the skin effectively, but dries it out a bit at the same time. However, it does not irritate the skin or cause any reaction. It prevents pores from getting clogged and controls the excess production of oil and does not make skin look greasy at all.

Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%:
The second product in the 7-days system is a vial of daily booster with pure vitamin C 10%. The vial comes sealed with a foil.

To activate the product, the foil has to be removed while leaving the cap on and the inner bulb has to be pressed firmly. It breaks the seal and releases the vitamin C powder into the soothing emulsion, and at this point, the daily booster is activated.

Now, as we know that vitamin C loses its potency after a week of exposure, hence, this vial has to be discarded after the 7-days usage disregarding the fact that there is still serum left or not. In fact, to keep the track of its expiry there is a space provided on the vial to note down the date of discarding.

When coming to its usage, it has to be shaken before every use. After shaking for 15 seconds, I remove the cap and add 2 drops of it in my moisturizer/cream. I used it every morning and night for 7 days and then discarded the vial. The emulsion or serum has medium consistency and is translucent in appearance. It has weird kind of smell which gets vanished after it sinks into the skin. The fragrance is not off-putting, but not pleasant at the same time. The formula is lightweight but potent, hence, it should not be used on its own. If used on its own, it makes the skin dry and stretchy.

The daily booster does not hinder the working of cream or moisturizer. I have sensitive skin and this daily booster causes a tingling sensation on my forehead and cheeks for a few seconds. Other than this, it didn’t irritate my skin in any other way. After application of this serum along with moisturizer can look a bit greasier, but within a few minutes, the sheen disappears and there is no oily residue left.

Result:
The results are pretty good considering the time span of only 7 days. The powder cleanser and daily booster, altogether, helps in making skin brighter. The brightness can be noticed within single usage- as the brand claims. In 7 days, it has improved the complexion, making it look a bit even-toned. Though the difference is very slightly visible, but it is there that too in a week. It has a very slight effect on dark spots as well. The dark spots look a bit faded if noticed. I don’t have tanned skin, but I think it would help with it effectively.

The 7- day system does not claim for any anti-ageing effect and the brand states to get benefit for ageing skin in long-term usage. Hence, after using 7-day system, no one can actually state whether it works for ageing skin or not. However, with the potent and fresh vitamin C, the anti-ageing claims could be true.

Overall, the Clinique fresh pressed 7-day system with pure vitamin C is more like detoxing the skin. It makes skin look refreshed, radiant and healthy in the span of 7 day only. It works well to brighten up the dull and tired complexion. Even after using it for 7-days, the results last long and the glow is still there.

Pros of Clinique Fresh Pressed 7-Day System with Pure Vitamin C:

  • Compact, travel-friendly packaging.
  • Lives up to the claims made.
  • Brightens the skin.

Do I Recommend/Repurchase Clinique Fresh Pressed 7-Day System with Pure Vitamin C?
Yes!

So I was naturally excited when I was sent one of their newest products to the trial, the Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%*.

The Beauty & Lifestyle Hunter

One of those beauty brands I’ve always loved, simply as it was the very first high-end brand I started purchasing as soon as I could afford it with my after-school job. And I have loved their products ever since, and have so many favourites from the brand, that I use frequently, and always have at hand.

So I was naturally excited when I was sent one of their newest products to the trial, the Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%*.

Vitamin C is one of those wonder ingredients that have proven to help the skin stay fresh, smoother, firmer with diminished lines and wrinkles, brighter and more even-toned, and simply more radiant and glowing. The key issue with Vitamin C is that it is very unstable and naturally degrades over time as it is exposed to oxygen, so it is most potent and powerful when it is fresh, which does make it very tricky. However, as a consequence, Clinique has developed a unique Fresh Pressed system that allows the pure Vitamin C to stay fresh, as it simply isolates the pure Vitamin C in a lightproof vial inside the packaging until it is activated.

  • Leave cap on and remove foil.
  • Firmly press inner bulb twice to release Vitamin C powder into the soothing emulsion.
  • Shake 15 seconds, and before each use.
  • Remove cap.
  • Mix 2 drops with your moisturiser AM and PM to power up your regular routine – although you can also apply it directly onto the skin if preferred, which I do prefer.

The Vitamin C is mixed with a smoothing emulsion that not only helps activate the vitamin C, but also contains other de-agers to help revitalise the skin and help balance the pH so it is comfortable and fully absorbed into the skin. Along with the Vitamin C, it contains among others;

  • Molasses to help break up existing dark pots for a brighter skin
  • Mulberry Root Extract, Scutellaria Extract, and Grapefruit Extract to helo the skin fend against antioxidative damage and prevent future discolourations
  • Salicylic Acid to help promote cell renewal, and bring a brighter, fresher and smoother skin to the surface
  • Sucrose, Betaine, Algae Extract and Caffeine to help calm and soothe the skin

The Actual Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster has a light serum-like texture, and it absorbs immediately into my skin, without any greasiness or stickiness. And immediately my skin feels soft and smooth, and has a lovely glowing look.

And after just a few uses, I start to feel that my skin is looking more radiant and luminous and also softer and clearer, with some minor pigmentation perhaps faded marginally. I haven’t really seen any difference in the appearance of my lines and wrinkles, but I guess, you can’t really expect to see major results after just a week, but I do love what I am seeing and feeling so quickly and the fact that my skin is clearly not longer as dull looking, but rather like I’ve just had the best pampering beauty treatment. So I’d definitely be keen to continue using this Fresh Pressed Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10% for a little longer, as well as try out other products from the range, to see what they can achieve for my ageing pigmented skin.

On the negative, if you’re using this permanently, at $100 for four week’s supply, it does get a little expensive, as unlike other skincare products, you cannot keep it and use it on and off, after a week, it is sadly no longer as potent and effective. But of course you can use it as just use as a treatment for as long and when you feel its needed, such as use a bottle or two, and keep the remaining (unopened) ones for a later stage.
