It has been very effective in curbing my appetite when I know I will be running errands all day and won’t have time to prepare a healthy meal. It keeps me from dashing into an unhealthy fast food place just to satisfy hungry. It takes away the need or since of urgency with senseless eatting that I can sometimes have. If you’ve made up your mind that you want to eat, healthy or otherwise, it won’t.

Most voted negative review

I took one capsule just prior to lunch and 30 minutes later my back started itching and then I felt two large welts or nodules on my lower back and on my side just below my braline. My skin started to crawl especially in my face and on just one of my hands. I became dizzy and confused. I took an antihistimine and a bromeline capsule. After about 15 minutes it started to ease. But it is 9 hours lat.

Caraluma Fimbriata DEX-C20 is not only effective for wiehgt loss but also for depression!! I’ve taken it for years with excellents results, it helps you loose weight and makes you feel happy!! Now I don’t find it anywhere.

I am a person that has had a hunger pain in my stomach since I was 16. I can eat a full meal and have hunger pains an hour later. Needless to say I am 30lbs over weight. This little pill stopped my hunger pain in one day. I know now I will be able to control my over eating. That to me is worth taking it.

THIS PRODUCT IS A SCAM. I PAID OVER $ 98.00 FOR A 60 DAY SUPPLY. TAKING 2 PILLS A DAY. IT’S BEEN 5 WEEKS AND NO APPETITE CHANGE, NO ENERGY CHANGE, NO WIGHT LOSS, 0 LBS.

I have large regular bowel movements once or twice everday.

I take in the a.m. and have had no side effects. I have lost 10 pounds in about 4 weeks and it had definitely curbed my appetite. I’m pretty happy with it. I ordered 1200mg from amazon, so no auto ship issues.

I use it as an appetite suppressant and it really works for me. I have tried taking it at different times during the day. If I don’t take it in the morning I feel really hungry by noon, but when I do, I have to remind myself to eat lunch.

I no longer binge on junk food. I take is as directed, 45 minutes before a meal.

Been on it for two months, take 1000 mg daily and I lost 17 pounds. It also cured my bulimia. I had a habit of eating sweets and vomited it–it took over an hour to get rid of it so I gained weight despite vomiting (you absorb lots in an hour’s time). I lost the urge to gorge myself. Bulimia cured immediately. I went from overweight to normal. This herb was nothing short of God-sent. I also thank God my bulimia is cured. I’m telling you this herb is awesome.

I have taken this twice a day for four years now. I take this before breakfast and before dinner. It most definitely curbs my appetite. I have been on the program of Weight Watchers and this had made it very easy for me to lose to my goal weight. I have lost a total of 190 lbs and have kept it off for three years now.

still in the early faze. but i have noticed it has decreased my stress eating. I take one with breakfast and one with my dinner. Im going to start taking 3 day one with each meal.

i been taking this twise a day..there was no weight loss or decrease in appetite.increase of thirst.

This product has helped curb my appetite and my cravings. The first few days I took it, I got a slight headache. I don’t take as much of the product as they suggest. I take it only once a day, after a meal.

I purchased this product like others and found it to be ineffective as well. Further, when you order you have no way of knowing if its the actual caralluma or not. In my case, it had a caffeine-like effect. Some products work for some and not for others. For me, it was a waste of $100.

i purchased Extract Caralluma Elite 1000. it made me feel nauseous and jittery. the money back guarantee came with big restocking charges for unused bottles.DON’T ORDER.

Curbs appetite with no side effects. Works great.

This is a SCAM! DO not go for it. It is a thief/company that will rob your credit card/atm card every month. By the time they stop stealing your money you will have 5, 6 or even 7 bottles in your garbage. I guarantee you. Do not take this product or ANY PRODUCT FEATURED ON DR PHIL, or the VIEW. These companies are the ones that fuel these stupid TV programs with money. Stop being gullible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

This product is a joke. I guess there is a hidden clause of auto refill after 14 days, well it takes a week to get it to you, so you have 7 days, then they charge your bank account for $89.95. It doesn’t do a thing to help curb your appetite. it doesn’t work. I have reported this to the Better Business Bureau as false advertising and THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY, after they charge your card, when you have only had the product a week.

First, I wish that the reviewers gave more information about WHICH Caralluma product they are reviewing. I hate scams and I hate auto-refils! At any rate, the product I purchased was from Caralluma Premium (Caralluma Fimbriata, $30 per bottle), which also came with little or no information on the shipping label, but the label on the bottle says 100% Caralluma fimbriata, nothing else. It seems to be working exactly as expected, reduces appetite and gives energy. I am on a 500 calorie a day diet and bought this to help me with hunger, although now on the third day, I don’t have any hunger. I noticed that I felt “speeded up” and maybe too energetic. But I will just adjust the dosage to one capsule. The jury is out. One thing I really hope is that they do not auto-ship, I thought I saw that they DO NOT on their website. Read More Read Less

Caralluma Fimbriata Review (UPDATED 2022): Don’t Buy Before You Read This!

Caralluma Fimbriata is a natural cactus extract used to reduce appetite and support weight loss. Traditionally used as a way to prevent famine, it’s now been researched to determine what possible effects it may have on supporting weight loss.

Once often boiled and cooked as a food source this succulent was traditionally used to prevent people from going hungry in the desert. It’s also said to help prevent thirst and increase endurance. Extracts of it are now sold in supplement form as a way to keep dieters from overeating. Our review experts analyze several weight loss diet plans, and in their research they found that the 18Shake Diet is the most effective for weight loss. It’s a combination of a fat burning diet pill and an appetite suppressing meal replacement shake. Learn more about the 18Shake Diet by clicking the link here.

Caralluma Fimbriata Ingredients and Side Effects
Caralluma Fimbriata (dosage strength may vary)

Caralluma Fimbriata: Cactus found primarily in India and claimed to help reduce appetite, quench thirst, and aid in endurance. Typically administered twice daily at a total of 1,000 mg a day.

Information on proper dosing is unknown and there are different interpretations on what the proper dosage strength should be. Web MD has also revealed:

“long-term safety is not known”

Potential side effects may include:

  • Constipation, gas, and stomach pain.
  • Upset stomach, indigestion, and nausea.

These kinds of effects are particularly common in the beginning stages of supplementation. For a comprehensive list of the best weight loss diets, follow the link provided.

A clinical study was also performed by the Government Medical College of India and they found:

“failed to yield any positive results on anthropometry and appetite”

When compared to a placebo Caralluma Fimbriata failed to have any effect. This study was also performed over a 12 week period which tested the biology of the participants to check for certain whether or not they experienced weight loss.

Side effects were also experienced in this study though they were mild and passed with time.

Due to the mixed studies and lack of information, it’s clear that more research needs to go into this ingredient before it can be selected as a functional weight loss ingredient. Follow the link here for a comprehensive list of the top ranked weight loss diets.

It’s a likely possibility that the reason why was used as a famine food is due to the natural fiber and filling nature of cactus. Whether or not it has any special properties for suppressing appetite and thirst has yet to have been proven scientifically.

The only thing for certain is that it has shown the possibility for side effects related to indigestion and nausea.

The claim made is that this ingredient will:

“render various body enzymes inactive, disrupting the normal fat formation in the body”

It’s not only said to help provide a physical reaction, but also intended to work deep in the brain:

“may affect the brain’s ability to control appetite”

While this is claimed as a great benefit to this extract, the lack of science makes it impossible to truly know whether or not it will have a positive effect.

EDITOR’S TIP: Combine this diet with a proven meal replacement such as 18 Shake ffor better results.

Caralluma Fimbriata Quality of Ingredients

Side effects are not extreme but there’s also been a lack of scientific studies to prove this ingredient works for suppressing appetite. It’s possible that in the past when it was used to suppress hunger that the fact it’s a vegetable might have helped.

Any source of fiber or even edible food will help to promote appetite suppression.

Judging from the available information it’s unclear whether or not this ingredient is truly effective in its claimed benefits. Examine.com has also found:

“it is not known exactly how Caralluma suppresses appetite”

Without more information there doesn’t seem to be any good reason to use this ingredient. Trying an ingredient which is both unproven and unknown as to how it works can be potentially dangerous.

There’s a lack of quality information not just of the short term effects, but also long term effects. This calls into question whether or not it’s truly a safe and effective ingredient. It’s impossible to determine this fact and one might be wasting their money in sampling it.

The Price and Quality of Caralluma Fimbriata

Prices vary depending on the specific brand chosen. There are also different dosage strengths but unfortunately due to a lack of research, it’s unknown what an optimal price would be. This makes it impossible to determine what strength one should choose, or if there’s a benefit to a chosen strength.

Pricing range and on Amazon.com a 60 day supply often sells for around $20.

Due to a lack of clinical studies it’s unknown whether or not this ingredient would be effective for weight loss. To learn about which weight loss diets were rated as the best, click on the link here.

Business of Caralluma Fimbriata

There’s not one single source for Caralluma Fimbriata. Each company will provide their own claims and dosage strengths as well as dosing requirements.

Typically companies will add this ingredient as a pure extract to supplements. When looking at companies it’s important to ensure a GMP certification for routine 3 rd party inspections and safe handling.

Some companies will also fail to offer a money back guarantee or they operate an auto shipment program. It’s important to be careful of these kinds of businesses as they will often lock people into monthly contracts which automatically subtract funds from one’s credit card.

Customer Opinions of Caralluma Fimbriata

Here are some select reviews from users of Caralluma Fimbriata supplements:

“I don’t know if this works for everyone but for me it gave me bloating, gas, and constipation”

“all it’s doing is making me even more hungry. I eat twice as much and have actually gained weight”

“I failed to see any changes at all in either appetite or mood”

“taking it for about 4 weeks and made changes to my diet. Have yet to feel anything”

Many were disappointed to find they didn’t notice any changes. Some actually became hungrier and gained weight while using Caralluma Fimbriata.

There were even issues from those who made sure to take it repeatedly for weeks. Sometimes certain ingredients can take longer for them to make a change in the body. Customers however still complained of a lack of effects.

There were also side effects experienced by users. This included things like nausea, indigestion, bloating, intestinal gas, and other related stomach heavy effects.

Conclusion – Does Caralluma Fimbriata Work?

Caralluma Fimbriata is an ingredient long used as a way to prevent famine. While as a whole vegetable it makes sense it would affect hunger, in supplement form there’s a lack of evidence to show what kind of effects it may have. Many users have complained about a lack of weight loss, and some have actually gained weight. Clinical studies have also shown that it produced no effect when compared to a placebo. There’s a lack of information about its long term use and whether or not it’s truly effective for appetite suppression.

Meta-analysis of outcomes were performed using Review Manager Software, version 5.3. Where available, the mean and standard deviation (SD) for baseline, end, and change from baseline values, as well as mean differences within or between intervention and comparison arms, were extracted for each outcome. Missing standard deviations were calculated from confidence intervals, standard error, or P values for difference in means following Cochrane guide. When these data were unavailable, standard deviations were imputed using a pooled correlation coefficient derived from a meta-analysis of correlation coefficients from studies reporting sufficient data. When there is not enough information available to calculate the standard deviations for the changes, they can be imputed as per guidelines provided in the Cochrane handbook [16]. When significant heterogeneity was noted in the pooled outcomes (I 2 > 60%) a random-effects model was used for meta-analysis, otherwise a fixed-effects model was employed. In all analyses, a p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Methods

A systematic review of clinical trials reporting the effects of Caralluma fimbriata as appetite suppression and anti-obesity supplement was reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and PRISMA check list is attached as supplementary file 1 [15]. There is no review protocol present for this study.

Inclusion and exclusion criteria

A study was considered eligible for data analysis if it met the criteria established by PICO index, a framework to formulate or deconstruct the research question: (1) Population: individuals with obesity or overweight with a BMI cut off of 25 kg/m 2 and greater or syndromes that results from either being overweight or obese; (2) Intervention: supplementation with C. fimbriata with or without other substances; (3) Comparison: receiving placebo or no treatments; (4) Outcome: obesity anthropometric parameters (Body Mass Index (BMI), Body weight (BW), WC, Hip Circumference (HC), Waist to Hip ratio (WHR), body fat percentage (%), biochemical parameters (Lipid profile and Fasting blood Glucose (FBG)) and/or appetitie related parameters (Virtual Analogue Scale (VAS) or Hyperphagia Qusestionnaire).

Data extraction, quality assessment and statistical analysis

Data extraction was done for all included studies by one researcher (RJ) and cross-checked by another (TVF). The following information was extracted from each study: 1) details of the study (first author, country, year of publication), 2) study design and duration of it, 3) study population, 4) details of the study sample, 5) details of the supplement and placebo, 6) both obesity related parameters including metabolic parameters, 7) appetite and nutritional details, 8) significant outcomes were evaluated. Any discrepancies in the data extracted in this manner were rechecked and resolved by discussion with the third reviewer (PR). The quality of studies were also assessed independently by two authors according to the Jadad scale (RJ, TVF). The three point based scale is used to evaluate the clinical studies that have been utilised in this review.

Meta-analysis of outcomes were performed using Review Manager Software, version 5.3. Where available, the mean and standard deviation (SD) for baseline, end, and change from baseline values, as well as mean differences within or between intervention and comparison arms, were extracted for each outcome. Blood glucose, lipids, anthropometric measures, and dietary intake and assessment of appetite were performed at 30 and 60 days.

More Research Needed on Caralluma Fimbriata

While this is an interesting preliminary study and should prompt more thorough and conclusive research, it is not correct or ethical to state it that caralluma fimbriata is a “silver bullet in weight loss and fat elimination.”

Unfortunately, a single study is not conclusive evidence that it is a magic pill.

The causes of obesity are numerous and this only addresses a single aspect (appetite).

High-calorie diets lead to the buildup of fat in the arteries, ultimately causing their hardening. In rats, Caralluma fimbriata extract reduced fat accumulation and restored normal blood vessel functions [14].

Supplementation

Dosage

Because Caralluma fimbriata is not approved by the FDA for any conditions, there is no official dose. Supplement manufacturers and users have established unofficial guidelines based on trial and error.

Users and supplement manufacturers recommend a dose of 500 mg 2x/day for up to 12 weeks [1, 11, 12].

Based on a safety study and the historical use of this plant in India without any reported adverse effects, Caralluma fimbriata extract was assigned the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status in 2006. However, it’s important to note that no long-term safety studies have been carried out [2].

Users of Caralluma fimbriata extract capsules reported different effects.

A number of users reported that the daily use of Caralluma fimbriata reduced appetite within a week or two of use. Reported weight loss was, however, mild.

Other users said that it did not reduce appetite but did improve energy levels. Some people experienced improvements in portion control and snacking. Others said cravings for sweets were not affected.

One user finished the entire bottle without seeing any benefits in weight at all.

The Bottom Line

Caralluma Fimbriata seems safe to take, but its use has not been studied for long term. More research is needed to recommend Caralluma for weight loss, but some research shows that it may cause very modest weight loss.

If you are looking for a supplement to help you lose weight, this product may not be your answer. It does have antioxidants, which can be helpful for overall health.
