Would I buy again? 100% yes!! I might go far as to say I might not use any other eye cream again. I am completely devoted.

Overall Pros

The packaging is GORGEOUS and sustainable 👏🏻👏🏻. Beautycounter is slowly converting all their products to sustainable and 100% recyclable glass bottles which makes me very happy and makes product photos far easier.

A little product goes a long way! I am fully aware that Beautycounter is not cheap, but thankfully their products don’t require a lot product use to do their work. I would say that every product except the cleanser and the radiance serum would probably last someone at least 3-4 months (maybe more depending on the product) before needing to repurchase.

My skin looks and feels smoother and more hydrated. This is huge for any anti-aging line that you might look into. With age our skin looses its ability to retain moisture, so all ani-aging lines should be focused on adding this hydration back and keeping it locked in as long as possible.

The line feels as luxurious as it looks and was such a relaxing part of my morning and night.

Retinol is not safe for pregnancy, so it’s nice that whenever that times comes for me, I won’t have to sacrifice my anti-aging products for 9+ months!

The entire line is EWG certified, which means it is free of thousands of harmful chemicals and toxins that are unregulated in America.

I’ve been blown away at how much smoother, clearer and more even my skin looks since adding these products to my skincare routine. My skin’s oil production has balanced and I get less breakouts and have more plump, radiant skin that glows! For the first time in years, I’m actually confident wearing very little to no makeup.

Beautycounter Countertime Collection Review

The Beautycounter Countertime regimen is one of the best anti-aging skin products and is considered a safe beauty product for pregnancy. The bakuchiol benefits are similar to retinol, but non-irritating and safe for pregnancy. This clean beauty skin care product has completely changed my skin—here

I don’t currently use the entire collection, so I’ve only reviewed the products that I currently am using, but included a few details about the other 2 products in this line that I don’t use, but have still heard positive things about.

Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence

How to Use It: You use this after you cleanse your face. I put a dime-sized amount onto clean fingers and then gently press into my skin until it’s absorbed.

Like all the products in this line, this has the Retinatural Complex in it, which is a natural alternative to retinol made from a combination of Bakuchiol and Swiss Alpine rose. Bakuchiol has similar benefits to retinol, but doesn’t have the irritation or sun-sensitivity that comes with it, and Swiss Alpine rose offers antioxidant defense.

The bottle is big—5oz. and lasts a really long time. I bought mine in late October and I still have more than 1/3 of it left and I use it both morning and evening. It’s $59, but when you realize it lasts that long, it makes it a total steal for such an amazing product.

Benefits
  • Adds hydration to your skin
  • Instantly gives more radiance
  • Preps skin for serums and moisturizers to follow

Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum

If you’re looking for a good anti-aging serum, this Tripeptide Radiance Serum is it! It has the highest amount of the Retinatural Complex of the entire line and is designed to target fine lines, wrinkles and also supports elasticity and visibly firms skin.

I adore this product and use it about every other night—I switch between this serum and the Overnight Peel (tutorial on how to use here) every other night for the “Treat” step of my skincare routine. You could use this serum morning and night, but I personally just use it at night after I’ve used the essence.

How to Use It: Dispense 1-2 pumps onto clean fingers and massage into skin in an upward motion. Let absorb for a couple of minutes before applying moisturizer.

It’s $79 and highly concentrated, so you don’t need much! It’s also very effective, hence the price point. Using this every other night, I’d say that it lasts 3-4 months.

Benefits
  • Improves skin’s natural moisture barrier for balance of oil production
  • Increases skin elasticity & firmness
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream

Okay, this may be the holy grail of night creams in my opinion! I was actually worried that this Supreme Cream would be too heavy for my breakout-prone skin, but I was wrong. It’s a heavier, thicker cream, but not super greasy and doesn’t clog pores.

It’s really hydrating and has actually improved the clarity of my skin, as well as my skin texture and radiance. My skin just looks hydrated, smooth and plump when I’m using this. Again, it contains the Retinatural Complex making it a perfect anti-aging night cream.

How to Use It: Scoop out a small amount (less than an almond-amount) with clean fingertips and massage into skin in upward motion. I use this as the second to last step in my nighttime skincare routine.

This night cream is $89 and if I’ve learned anything in my late 20s and early 30s it’s that good, quality skincare isn’t cheap, but it’s something I’ve never ever regretted. A jar of this typically lasts me 2-3 months.

Benefits
  • Wake up with glowing, radiant skin
  • Decreases appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Deeply hydrates and nourishes skin

Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream

I love this Ultra Renewal Eye Cream as it does a great job of softening crow’s feet and keeping the delicate skin around your eyes hydrated.

How to Use It: Scoop a very small amount out and pat gently into eye area. I use this at night only as I find it doesn’t always do great under makeup, but have heard some people have no issue with it under makeup!

This eye cream is $69, but lasts a long time! We go through it in about 2-3 months and that’s with both Rob and I using it. Yes, it’s great for guys too!

Benefits
  • Decreases under eye shadows
  • Decreases fine lines and crow’s feet
  • Deeply hydrates skin around the eyes

Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil

This Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil is one that I haven’t personally tried, but have heard great things about. This lightweight cleansing oil gently yet effectively removes dirt and makeup without over-drying skin.

Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream

Same with this Antioxidant Soft Cream! I actually plan to try this one out this summer after my favorite Countermatch Adaptive Moisturizer runs out. This would be your day time moisturizer if you were using this whole line and would be your final or second to last step in your morning skincare routine.

The Beautycounter Countertime regimen is one of the best anti-aging skin products and is considered a safe beauty product for pregnancy. The bakuchiol benefits are similar to retinol, but non-irritating and safe for pregnancy. This clean beauty skin care product has completely changed my skin—here best anti-aging skin products

Beautycounter Countertime Pros and Cons

It’s Safe!

We have a list of over 1,800 questionable or potentially harmful ingredients that we will never use in our products formulations. Right now, the U.S. only bans or restricts 30 ingredients—yikes. All of our products are also safe enough to use while pregnant, and I use this line while pregnant too.

Plant Derived Retinatural Complex

This plant based formula gives results that are comparable to retinol! It’s made with Bakuchiol, which has similar effects as retinol but comes without the irritation or sun sensitivity that makes retinol less safe, and Swiss Alpine rose that helps boost skin’s antioxidant defense.

EWG Verified

All the products in the Countertime line are EWG Verified which means they meet the Environmental Working Group’s very strict standars for health and include no chemicals of concern as outline by the EWG—basically, it means you can trust the product as being clean and safe for your health!

Glass Packaging

The packaging for this line is all glass which means it’s recyclable and better for the environment than plastic packaging. It’s also really pretty!

This is the biggest con of the Countertime line, and really any quality anti-aging product. Simply put, they’re made with the best ingredients, and those ingredients aren’t cheap. Rest-assured that your skin is getting the good stuff though! I’m a big believer in investing in my skin because I’ll have it forever, so for me, it’s worth it.

Some People Experience Sensitivity

Like all skincare lines, it’s not right for everyone. The Retinatural Complex may cause sensitivity or redness for some people. I personally have never experienced this, but do know that it has happened to others. Thankfully, Beautycounter offers a 60-day return policy, so if you don’t like it or have a bad reaction, you can always return it for a full refund!

Plant Derived Retinatural Complex

Is The Beautycounter Countertime Collection Worth It?

In my opinion, yes! Especially if you’re on the hunt for safe and effective anti-aging skincare products.

I’ve been blown away at how much smoother, clearer and more even my skin looks since adding these products to my skincare routine. My skin’s oil production has balanced and I get less breakouts and have more plump, radiant skin that glows! For the first time in years, I’m actually confident wearing very little to no makeup.

I’d highly recommend adding these products, or even just a couple of them to your current routine to take it up a notch!

Customer Review:

“I love derma set. It’s one of the best wrinkle creams. It’s expensive, but it works for my skin type. I recommended it to a couple of my friends and they also liked it. The important thing with the anti-aging products is to keep in mind that besides the products, you need to also have a healthy lifestyle. A lot of water, good face masks, and good food.”

For aging skin, Beautycounter’s main concerns were strengthening the skin’s natural barrier, increasing its ability to defend itself against environmental stressors, and visibly reducing fine lines and wrinkles by fortifying the skin’s elasticity and firmness.

Beautycounter developed a plant-based version of retinol for its Countertime skincare line — here’s what it’s like to use and why the dupe may be a safer option

product images_100000430_gallery_imgs_COUNTERTIME_GROUP

Beautycounter, known for its clean beauty activism and strict policy of eschewing potentially harmful ingredients, has its first-ever skin-care line engineered specifically for aging skin: Countertime.

Steering clear of the passé idea that women’s worst fear and greatest sin is the audacity to age and show said aging, Beautycounter avoids billing Countertime as an “anti-aging” line and focuses instead on the desire to meet time on your own terms. That said, it’s still a skin-care line designed to target the effects of time on the skin — just without the branded shame of aging.

For aging skin, Beautycounter’s main concerns were strengthening the skin’s natural barrier, increasing its ability to defend itself against environmental stressors, and visibly reducing fine lines and wrinkles by fortifying the skin’s elasticity and firmness.

In most skin-care lines designed for aging skin, you’ll find retinol in the ingredients list. According to Harvard Health, retinoids are the most-used and most-studied anti-aging compounds. Their benefits include reducing fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen production, improving skin color by stimulating new blood vessels, and fading age spots and softening rough patches. However, Beautycounter decided to forgo adding retinol to Countertime due to concerns over its safety — citing internal and external studies that have shown potential for reproductive toxicity and general skin irritation (the latter a mainstream consumer complaint).

Removing retinol from a debut collection designed specifically for aging skin leaves a big hole in the recipe. To fill it, Beautycounter tasked its lab of researchers with concocting something new that could safely — and effectively — fill the void. Flash forward many failed Frankensteins and lab tests later, and Beautycounter found success with a new retinol dupe it’s calling the Retinatural Complex. Beautycounter credits the Complex with keeping skin plump and hydrated, increasing the feeling of firmness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, boosting the skin’s barrier function, improving texture and tone, and protecting against oxidative damage which can cause chronic disease.

The Retinatural Complex leans on two under-the-radar anti-aging plant essences: Bakuchiol and Swiss Alpine Rose.

Bakuchiol is a vegan, non-irritating retinol alternative, as explained by Allure in 2018. But, before then, it was used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic skin-care remedies for centuries. Like retinol, clinical testing shows it increases cell turnover by stimulating collagen and diminishing skin concerns associated with aging like fine lines, wrinkles, photodamage, and skin laxity — all without the potentially harmful or irritating side-effects.

Swiss Alpine Rose, on the other hand, grows at the highest altitudes of the Swiss Alps, and it’s best-known for an uncanny ability to protect itself against environmental stressors and dehydration.

Beautycounter sent me Countertime products to test ahead of their launch, so I’ve compiled what each product does — and how they performed — below for reference. In general, they were gentle, effective, and easy to layer — a set you can realistically use in tandem. My skin seemed tighter, more “glowy”, firmer, and plumper post-use. I don’t wear foundation typically, but I’ve started to look forward to using this as a kind of makeup because it makes my skin look so dewy and fresh. However, it takes about three to six months for you to see a reduction in wrinkles with retinoids, and the exact number for the Retinatural Complex wasn’t readily available, so only prolonged use will demonstrate if these are long-term results. The price range of $49-$89 is not ideal, but if you’re willing to pay more for efficacy, clean ingredients, and daily luxury, you’ll likely find this line to be worth it.

Another (less) important thing to note is that Countertime is a good-looking collection. But, more than that, it comes in glass bottles rather than plastic. According to Beautycounter, this will reduce the line’s greenhouse gas footprint by an estimated 38%. You can also find easy-to-follow instructions on recycling on the packaging itself.

skincare is a notoriously personal process, and what works for me may not work for you. If you do decide to try a Countertime product but you don’t love it, Beautycounter’s return policy online states that you can return the unused portion within 60 days from the ship date for your money back — though the company won’t pay back original shipping and handling fees.
